MarketsSettlements Refresher Training on 4/21/26: DAME, EDAM and EDAM CAISO Balancing Authority Participation Rules
The California ISO is introducing significant changes to how it settles day-to-day market operations through a series of transformative initiatives. To support Scheduling Coordinators (SCs) in navigating these changes, the ISO is offering a settlements-focused refresher training session on April 21, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time. This session builds upon previous foundational training sessions and will focus on specific topics resulting from the upcoming Spring 2026 launches of:
- Day-Ahead Market Enhancements (DAME)
- Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM)
- EDAM ISO Balancing Authority Area Participation Rules
This class will provide settlement concepts and examples on the following topics:
- Imbalance Reserve Up and Down (IRU/IRD)
- Reliability Capacity Up and Down (RCU/RCD)
- Resource Sufficiency Evaluation (RSE)
- Charge Codes
- Timelines
Who should attend?
The primary audience for this training is the settlement personnel of Scheduling Coordinators operating within the ISO Balancing Authority Area, those planning to participate in EDAM, and anyone engaged in Western Energy Markets (WEM) who wants to stay informed.
Even if your organization does not plan to participate in EDAM immediately, this session offers valuable insights to help you prepare for future involvement.
Why is this important?
This training will allow participants to:
- Explain how Imbalance Reserve Up and Down are settled and how costs are allocated to market participants.
- Explain how Reliability Capacity Up and Down result in settlements associated with reliability-driven capacity procurement.
- Identify how Resource Sufficiency Evaluation outcomes lead to settlement charges, procurement costs, or financial exposure.
- Identify charge codes that are new or amended as part of the DAME, EDAM and CAISO EDAM BA Participation Rules initiatives.
- Identify how settlements timelines determine the timing of charges, credits, true-ups, and dispute opportunities.
How do I register?
Click here to register for the training session. Pre-registration is not required. You may register in advance or on the day of the session.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with your personalized Webex login details and a calendar invite that you can add directly to your schedule.
Important: Each participant must register individually. Please do not forward the registration link or your confirmation email to teammates, as access is unique to each registrant.
What other training should you consider?
This session is a refresher to previous trainings delivered in 2025 that focused on general settlements-related impacts of these initiatives. You can find recordings, presentation slides and Q&A from settlements courses, as well as for markets-related training on the ISO Training Center under the Western Energy Markets section. A video recording of this continuation course will also be available in the Western Energy Markets section within three business days after the webinar.
